Ethiopian PM wins Nobel Peace Prize

Something extraordinary is happening in Africa.

The Norwegian Nobel committee has decided to award the Nobel peace prize for 2019 to Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed’s efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation and for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea.

Since taking power, PM Abiy Ahmed has promoted and engaged in a number of peace, reconcilation and solidarity processes in Africa. Also, Ahmed has appointed women to half of Ethiopia’s ministerial posts in government.

The achievements are many, but there’s also still a long way to go! We continue to stand on the side of peace.
